Bankroll
The amount of money a player has available for wagering.

Bonus Feature
A player gets this feature when a combination of certain symbols appears.  The player doesn’t need to wager anything during the feature.

Chasing
When a player is down and they try to win back their losses.

Cold
A losing player, or a game/machine that is not paying out.

Credits
Online wagers are expressed in credits.

Deposit
The payment made to the online casino to credit your account in order to play for real money. Online casinos accept different payment methods.

Deposit Bonus
The casino will match your deposit with a certain percentage of your deposit. Usually up to a certain limit.

Encryption
Online security that ensures personal information and monetary transactions are safe and secure.

eWallet
An online payment solution to securely transfer money over the internet.  Deposit and withdraw money to and from an online casino.

Free Games
These are won when a play spins a certain combination of symbols.  The number of free games is different for each slot game.

Free Play
Online casinos offer free play as an incentive for new players. It is a period of time where players can play an unlimited number of  slot games, e.g. play for one hour.

Gambler’s Anonymous
(GA) a support group to problem gamblers.

House
The brick and mortar or online casino.

House Edge
The casino’s advantage over the player.

Jackpot
A large payout on a slot machine.

Lobby
The part of an online casino where a player chooses which game to play.  Players can also view their bankroll and play special online promotions/games.

Loose Slots
Online slots that have been programmed to return 82-98+% of money wagered.

No Deposit Bonus
Some online casinos offer players a bonus just for registering their details. There are usually wagering requirements that need to be met before winnings from bonus money can be withdrawn.

Odds
The ratio of probability.

Pay Line
Slot machine line (straight or zigzagged) across the reels where the symbols have to line up in order for a player to win. Pay lines are usually depicted as patterns on the paytable.

Payout Percentage
The winnings a player receives as a percentage of money wagered.

Payout Table
Shows how much each winning pays out based on the number of credits played.

Progressive
Each time a bet is placed the jackpot increases until it’s hit.  Once the jackpot is won it resets back to a pre-defined starting point.

Reload Bonus
A reward that online casinos give to existing players for making another deposit.

Reels
A slot machine’s reels spin around when money is wagered and show symbols.

RNG
Random Number Generator. A system designed to randomize the outcome of online games to ensure fair play..

Scatter
A symbol which can start features such as a multiplier, bonus games, bonus money, or other features.  It does not have to appear on a pay line, and some games need just one to start a feature, others need 2-3.

Sign-up Bonus
Also called a welcome bonus. It’s a bonus credited to new players when registering at an online casino.

Tight Slots
Machines that pay out less than 80% and sometimes down to 50% of the wagered money.

Wagering Requirements
Almost all online casino bonuses require a minimum amount of wagering to clear the bonus. Generally you have to wager about 25 times your deposit plus the bonus amount.

Welcome Bonus
General term for bonuses that are given to welcome new players on a site.

Wild
A symbol which can be substituted for any other symbol in order to make a winning pay line. Wild symbols can also be multipliers and increase the money won from a pay line.
